USAGI JAPANESE YOSHOKU-YA 洋食屋 – San Mateo, CA (Bay Area)

A friend suggested this place, so we came here on a Sunday night. This place has around 13 tables, small but cute. Service is hit or miss, took them 10 minutes to give us the menu, another 10 minutes for water.

All entrees served with soup or salad, but we opted for soup. It was a creamy corn soup, nothing special.

Usagi Omelet Rice – which is omelet filled with chicken rice. I honestly can’t see or ate any chicken. The sauce was good, a little salty too my liking. Omelet was very soft and fluffy. This was $9.50, I think they can afford to throw more chicken in.

Also got the Black Pork Cutlet with Shrimp. Served with a some shredded cabbage and dipping sauce. Breading was very crispy, pork cutlet was crispy outside and not overly dry inside (I was hopefully it would be a little bit more moist).

  1. Whenever I’m in Japan I always end up eating so much corn soup because it’s really popular there. But I rarely see it on menus at Japanese restaurants in Southern CA. Makes me miss Japan!

    • This place was introduced by our Japanese friend, probably the only 1 in Bay Area that serves corn soup. I would love to visit Japan to taste the corn soup there 🙂
