Tanto is probably one of the best and authentic Izakaya we’ve tried. This is small and fortunately they take reservation and reservation is high recommended. We had reservation at 8pm on a Friday night and waited for 5 minutes got our seats. Service was prompt.
Knowing this is more like a Japanese Tapa style, we ordered a few things to share.
Toro Tataki – absoultely amazing! Seared Fatty Tuna with light and refreshing ponzu sauce, pretty good serving size.
Fried Octopus – for a change, hubby ordered octopus instead calamari. I really like it, the breading was very light and crispy.
Hamachi Kama – perfectly grilled. Fish was fresh, and skin was grilled to perfect crispness, we only left 2 bones haha.
Monkfish Liver in Halibut Sashimi – a very interesting dish to us. The sashimi was fresh, but monkfish liver is little too rich for us – the ponzu sauce does help to ease a bit of the richness. Its not bad, but probably wouldn’t order it next time.
Uni Rice with Poached Egg – this was the dish I was waiting to try, and sorry to say it was my least favorite of the night. Uni was moist and creamy, poached egg was good … but too bland. I can make this at home.
Reservation is highly recommend. I would definitely come back to try out other items on the menu.
