CHUNGDAM 清談/清譚 – one of the newer and upscale Korean restaurant in Santa Clara. The interior decor was pretty warm with lots of wood furniture and vases. This place gets very crowded on weekends, we wait 1.5 hours due some hiccup from the hostess. We got there on a Friday night and understood the wait was about 1 hour. We gave our names to the hostess and waited … waited … and requested a couple updates in between. The gentlemen calling names were so soft, couple times I had to ask him what name he called. After a while, we got a little frustrated and asked about our table. The gentlemen said he called our names … we were like impossible, we were standing 1 feet from the counter. Anyways, he apologized because he knew we were standing there the whole time and gave us a table within 5 minutes … it was around 8:45pm, there were a couple empty tables.
They offered standard Korean Ban Chans with a special marinated crabs that hubby and I enjoyed a lot. Very flavorful.
Complimentary Seafood Pancake (for the waiting) – the gentleman offered a free seafood pancake due to us waiting for so long. This is probably one of the best Seafood Pancake I had in the Bay Area, it is actually filled with seafood. The lady offered to cut into pieces, very thoughtful.
We wanted something soupy and not spicy – Soybean Paste Stew with Seafood, a little lighter than the spicy version, but flavorful and plentiful of seafood.
Spicy Sautéed Black Pork Belly on Hot Stone Plate – the best dish of the night. It was sizzling hot when served. It has a very bold and spicy flavor, perfect with hot steamed rice. This dish actually is cooked with squid too. More squid than black pork belly, I wish for more pork belly, it was really good!
Pumpkin drink dessert – we were offered a small pumpkin drink dessert. Oh boy, that really clears up my salty and spicy palate – it was sooooo sweet! I only took couple sips.
This place is a little more expensive than others, but worth a try.
