MY PLACE 大城小聚 – CHICAGO, IL

Whenever I am in town, my family always go to My Place for dinner. Food was always hot and good portion. They get pretty busy during lunch and dinner rush.

A nice authentic Cantonese style dinner.

QUARTINO RISTORANTE – CHICAGO, IL

This is one of the restaurant in Chicago I wanted to try for a long time. Came here on a weekend with my family with reservation. Lucky we had reservation, the wait was pretty long and big crowds.

The menu was very extensive. We opted for few items to share.

Salumeria Tasting – a great way to try out a bit of everything. I forgot the types of meat we have, but it was very enjoyable. The portion was very big, we couldn’t finish it.

Gnocchi – love house made pasta! soft pillowy potato dumplings with arugula pesto sauce.

Braised Pork Shank – cooked in red wine, so tender, falls of the bone.

Love this place. Do recommend getting reservation.

DIN TAI FUNG 鼎泰豐 – SANTA CLARA, CA (BAY AREA – WESTFIELD VALLEY FAIR)

Needless do I to say – when Din Tai Fung arrived in the Bay Area, it was a crazy hit! We didn’t come during the grand opening month.

We visited this place probably sometime last year, my sister-in-law made a reservation for all of us. Thank goodness for the reservation, otherwise would be 2 hours wait. Like most other Din Tai Fung, they have a window outside you can see the XLB making process.

Start off with Cucumber Salad:

We knew what we wanted already, of course the soup dumplings! One thing is the portion here is SMALLER than LA, and more EXPENSIVE than LA. Kind of crazy, but considering they are in Valley Fair … what can I say!?

Vegetable and Pork Wontons with spicy sauce – I recall this dish was so-so, the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking.
Noodles with sesame sauce – it was okay.

A good place to try it out if you haven’t yet.

PIZZA ANTICA – SAN JOSE, CA (BAY AREA)

One of my favorite pizza place, Pizza Antica on Santana Row. This place is always pack, always busy, always have to wait and no reservation. I was here on a weekend with a friend from out of town. We had to wait about 30mins.

We ordered a Kale Salad, the waiter was nice to split the salad for us.

Clams in tomato wine sauce – perfect with bread!!

Potato & Ricotta Gnocchi – big fluffy gnocchi in a pesto sun-dried tomato sauce, it was good, but kind of heavy to my liking.

Lastly, of course we had to order pizza – Fennel Sausage, mushrooms and onion.
The pizza is like a personal size, but can be share with 2 person. Love the good thin crispy crust and chewy dough.

SCAPE AMERICAN BISTRO – ST. LOUIS, MO

Came here for brunch on a beautiful Saturday. Decor was a bit mix of rustic and bold color, service was good. We didn’t have a reservation, but no wait either.

I original came here wanted to the Wimbledon French Toast, which is like a cornflakes crusted brioche with creme fraiche and strawberries … but they no longer serve that. Disappointed me.

They gave use couple complimentary donuts – it was nice touch, but they were served cold.

Complimentary donuts

Classic Benedict – thick cut Canadian Bacon, arugula, tomato, perfect poached eggs, hollandaise sauce. Love the thick cut fries too!

Classic Benedict

Strawberry Crepe – it was huge! fresh strawberries, nutella and tons of house-made whipped cream. We finished the whole thing.

Brunch – Classic Benedict & Strawberry Crepe

It was a very nice brunch, I wish they bring back the Wimbledon French Toast.
