JOY YEE NOODLE – CHICAGO, IL

One of the busiest restaurant in Chicago Chinatown. Their popular for their bubble tea and smoothie, you literally see everyone holding one of their drink around Chinatown. The menu is huge, but food is so-so, very slappy.

We ordered couple smoothies. Real Fruits – no bad.

Eel and Beef Cube over Tomato Rice – the presentation was impressive, served in a little bucket. Eel serving was a bit small, beef was good. Rice was a bit greasy.

EUROPE TRIP – CHICAGO to LONDON to FRANKURT

It has been a long trip. I finally got back home last night, extremely tired and jetlag – woke up 4am!

Anyways, this trip has been very fulfilling … partial for work and part for fun.

We started in St. Louis and Chicago O’Hare airport, took British Airways to London and connect to final destination Frankfurt.

We had a big breakfast in STL airport Chili’s. Nothing to wow about, just simple breakfast to fill up our tummy. I couldn’t finish the potatoes.

We had a 4 hours wait in Chicago, so we ended up eating more!! My boss really want to fill me up!

We stopped at Tocco inside the international terminal. It is a Italian Neaplitan wood fired pizza. We ordered lemonade to refresh ourselves after the long security lines.

The waitress suggested Quattro Stagioni – it has black olives, mushrooms, artichokes, ham and topped with easy over egg. Pizza was pretty thin and excellent balance of flavors, not bad really.

Our plane – Boeing 747, I haven’t flew in 747 in a long time … I almost forgot how jumbo this plane is.

After 7 hours 30 minutes, we finally arrived in London … its my first time in this new terminal 5 in London. Everything is very bright and new, lots of travelers of course. I really love this new terminal.

Finally our short flight London to Frankfurt, only 1 hour 40 minutes. We were given a Smoked Ham and Cheese Croissant. This is different from US flights, usually we only get a bag of peanuts or pretzels.

LAO SZE CHUAN 老四川 – CHICAGO, IL (芝加哥 CHINATOWN)

Finally back from travelling, we were in Chicago spending the Thanksgiving. Lots to catch up!

First, we tried one of the busiest Sichuan restaurant in Chicago Chinatown, very disappointed. All dishes were missing the essential “Ma – numbing” from Sichuan cuisine. Service was extremely bad, rude manager! While we were waiting, there was the rude manager outside yelling down the street; he was holding a mini flash light point all over the place and to his customers, was it really necessary? Oh we waited 1 hour to be seated.

We got seated upstairs, no services at all, I wasn’t expecting much anyway, but this was bad. We wait 20 mins to flag down a waiter to take our order. We ordered 3 dishes, took 30 mins for the first 2 dishes, and another 30 mins for the final dish. We had to flag down another waiter to get rice, oh boy, he just nodded this head and kept walking. What does that mean? Did he heard us or not??

Alright, back to the dishes.

Dry Chili Chicken: It was spicy and crispy. But where is the numbing sensation? Where is the peppercorn that’s makes the “Ma” in Sichuan cuisine? Very disappointed.

Spicy Boiled Beef: Bad … the whole dish was lack of flavor, spicy, but not numbing!
